I am an Italian journalist and composer, born in Senigallia (Ancona) in 1979 and currently based in Milan. My musical language is characterised by an original approach to serialism, with a particular emphasis on the theatrical, narrative, and dreamlike dimensions of music, as well as on the dialectical interplay between its different elements.
The compositional technique developed in my pieces is rooted in a spontaneous engagement with raw musical material, shaped through aleatory processes of permutation, transformation, and variation applied to pitch and rhythmic sequences. Through the arbitrary selection and combination of pitches, durations, and dynamics, the material is allowed to evolve in unpredictable and constantly changing directions. At times, this approach leads to syncretic solutions that combine serial techniques with fragments of diatonic or modal music, creating a tension between different musical languages and modes of expression. This interplay between structure and spontaneity, as well as between contrasting musical systems, is at the core of my compositional practice.
Among my principal influences are stories and legends of the Mediterranean region as well as its rich liturgical traditions. Other important references include jazz and popular music. The visual arts also play a significant role in my creative process, especially the work of modern and contemporary painters from Europe and the United States. Their explorations of colour, form, texture, and composition often provide a parallel source of inspiration for my musical language.
My recent works have been selected for performances and international composition programmes. Charles Plays Cello was selected for the 2025 edition of the Hamilton Contemporary Music Festival in Canada and performed by the HICMF Ensemble, conducted by Chikako Iversen, on 22 February 2025. The Shepherd and the Dolphin was selected as a finalist for the 2026 Lawson-May Award for Composition (UK), while Le deux chats was selected for performance at the 2026 Festival des Musicales d’Assy in Haute-Savoie, France, and performed by Duo REGARDS (Pauline Klaus and Marie Ythier).
I hold a degree in Philosophy from the University of Bologna. For more than twenty years, I worked as a journalist and press officer specialising in finance, asset management, and the legal sector. Alongside my professional career, I remained actively involved in music, performing with a cabaret band in Milan. In recent years, I returned to the study of composition through private lessons with the Argentine composer Héctor Raúl Domínguez.
